To save weight on this autumn’s #CrossBorderRail I’m experimenting taking a mirrorless Fujifilm X-E2 instead of a SLR with me. But 1) battery life of the 10 year old battery is poor, and 2) the charger huge

Solution? 2 cheap batteries with USB-C ports on them. Online reviews: 80% great, 20% they go wrong in no time. Worth a try for €26 for 2, versus €48 for a Fujifilm original! And avoiding taking the original charger

@jon Interesting, just a couple weeks ago I was wondering about AAA batteries like that I spotted: https://mastodon.com.pl/@HaTetsu/115124875231033450

…These still feel a little creepy (being too deep into infosec/hardware stuff, there are days when USB feels *too* universal), but definitely feeling the drive to pack as light as possible 👍

...They sell AAA batteries with a built-in USB-C port for charging? Feels a little scary for some reason

@HaTetsu I'm intrigued how much of the space in the battery is occupied by the charging circuit. At least these Fujifilm batteries are a reasonable size!
@jon I know, right? But even well-known brands advertise them, so apparently it's possible: https://www.trust.com/en/product/25671-usb-c-rechargeable-aaa-batteries

@HaTetsu I am seeing it like this: I have a USB-C charger with me *anyway*, and I can carry 2 of the USB-C charging batteries with me, and still carry less stuff than 1 original Fujifilm battery and the charger.
