Which game do you think really deserves a proper remaster?

https://piefed.social/post/1240316

My list:
- Fallout 3 (the same treatment as Oblivion Remastered)
- Final Fantasy 7 (I hate the remake, give me a proper HD remaster without changing the gameplay or story)
Total Annihilation (best RTS);
Little Big Adventure 2.

I had never heard of LBA2, I like the unique art style.

Looks like a remake is coming soon...

Little Big Adventure - Purple Empire on Steam

Twinsen’s journey takes him to Zeelich, a bizarre planet ruled by a pompous emperor with grandiose ambitions. Master magic, outwit eccentric foes, and navigate a world where danger meets the absurd. Unravel a cosmic conspiracy in this whimsical, action-packed adventure!

AFAIK this remake has been put in hold since the company has not secured the required funding.

Actually it seems to have been released already, on GOG:

Twinsen is back in this remake featuring a new stylish makeover and modernized gameplay. Faithful to the original game, Little Big Adventure – Twinsen’s Quest takes you on an epic journey on a small planet harboring both magic and technology.

That's the remake of the first one.
RAGE
I've never played Rage but I just checked the screenshots on Steam. The graphics looks nice and modern. What do you want it improved in the remaster?
As someone who played and finished the game back when it was new, I don’t see why anyone would want a remaster of it. It’s an ok shooter, but there’s nothing memorable other than the driving (which was just boring)
Armored Core 4 really struggled on release. I’d love to see it get rebuilt for modern hardware and let it shine.
  • Fable: The Lost Chapters (no, the anniversary edition does not count)
  • The Last Story
Why doesn't the anniversary edition count?
The jump in visual fidelity isnt that big and I don’t like what they did with the faces of the new models :(
  • Final Fantasy 6
  • Chrono Trigger

The latter had an awesome fan made 3D remake called Chrono Resurrection and then Square sent a C&D and shut it down.

FF6 would be amazing as a 3D remake as long as they didn’t try to do the “let’s divide it into 3 games and change things up!” Like they did with 7.

FF6 is my favourite but I will personally travel to Japan and fight to the death before letting the Nomura-Najima “dream team” get their hands on it.
“Proper” remaster is the important qualifier, here. Also, we will know Final Fantasy 6 has a proper remaster when everyone realizes that 6 was a masterpiece that 7 only overshadows in length. Final Fantasy 6 packs so much into each moment and has such a diverse lineup of characters that 7 feels more drawn out with more filler to compete. Also 6 has better combat. I said it.
If such a 3D remaster ever happens, I really wish they make an exclusive animation for Sabin suplexing the ghost train

Don’t have many games for me in that. Would love a Fallout 2 remaster, something that improves the visuals, and adds some QoL improvements, but keeps the game the way it is.

Was happy with Diablo 2 remake, but I haven’t actually played it yet, so not sure how faithful it is.

Would love Black & White, or Settlers 2 remaster. They made a new Settlers game, but it didn’t get great reviews, from what I recall.

3 was great. 4 was meh.

I was talking about the recent reboot, The Settlers: New Allies

Don’t recall if I played 3 and 4 or not.

Settlers 2 had a 3D remake in 2006. Not sure if this is the Settlers you’re saying that didn’t receive good reviews - www.gog.com/en/…/the_settlers_2_10th_anniversary

I was talking about The Settlers: New Allies

It’s a 2023 reboot of the series.

Hogs of War - it’s something like Worms in 3D, but from all the way back in 1998. The PS1 game works fine, but the PC release was bugged with enemy AI not moving at all.

Team Buddies - really fun action game on the PS1, could shine with 4v4 multiplayer on the internet

Jazz Jackrabbit - Bigger resolution at least, with more of the level being visible at any time. Modern controller support would also be awesome.

Pong. It’s got no unlocks. No achievements. No ranks. And it only supports 2 players. At least add a bot.
Is a round ball too much to ask?!

Wing Commander series.

Crimson Skies. How the fuck have we not had another Crimson Skies? We went through the whole pirate fad and with the current political situation of the USA…

I think the problem is it’s a flight simulator, and those died as “video games.” Nobody has a Sidewinder or Wingman joystick on their computer desks anymore, and they’re not tremendously fun to play with a controller and exceptionally unfun with keyboard and mouse.

Flight sims are still around but they’re way up in the enthusiast space adjacent to racing sims.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. The original has a lot of technical issues, and has essentially become abandonware. However, it’s still easily one of Troika’s greatest cRPGs, so it’s a real shame that it’s just being left to languish. The underlying game is interesting enough that I think a fresh coat of paint and some new audio would do a lot to bring in a new generation if players, but would really love if a team of fans were willing to bring it back even better than before.

essentially become abandonware

Eh, that term is for games that you can’t get anywhere, like No One Lives Forever, Mechwarrior 4 or Battle for Middle Earth 1/2. Arcanum has been on GOG and Steam for ages now

Heretic and Hexen, give them the Doom 2016 treatment. I would play the hell out of that
Damn! I was thinking the same just last week. Saw there was a new version of Heretic and checked it out. Unfortunately it’s not as modernized as I had hoped.

Final Fantasy VII. Fans have made beautiful new models with better textures on Nexus, and it makes me wish Square Enix had bothered to do more than just up-res the graphics and backgrounds before calling it a day. That’s the only remake I ever wanted.

Nexus Mods :: Final Fantasy 7
Reminds me of Square’s announcement of Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation 4 in 2014, the one that everyone was expecting to be the remake, but it was just the same PS1 game with nothing new.
