I am going to my first CE Europa (the neighborhood football team) game this evening and I am super excited. Had been meaning to become a member for a few years now and I'm glad to have finally made it happen. I realize that sports is probably not a thing most of my followers are into. But I sincerely believe that supporting and being part of small local community efforts is super important—and that includes sports. Critical theory book clubs do not a community build, at least not on their own. They won their first game of the season last week and this will be the first home game. In fact, it will be the first home game in the 3rd division since ’95! So excitement is running very high. Oh, and did I mention the club plays with explicit politics? They play with an antifa patch on their kit and even have it written into their statutes. So… Europa sempre endavant!

Down 0–1 from a corner in the 5'. But definitely not out of this yet. Europa has shown some flash going forward, especially via the laterals. Cano, the captain, has been a pillar in defense. A lot of hope and energy left, both on that file and in the stands.
How did none of those go in!?
(I'm also wondering about the one ultra group with the UK National Rail logo on their flag. Anyone know what's up with the CE Europa Outsiders penya? I did not expect a rail connection here!)
VAR for possible penalty! (We have var at this level? Amazing.) Nope. Not given. I guess shirt pulling isn't enough to be a clear and obvious error by the ref.
Half time. Still 0–1, which feels against the run of play. Props to Seville's keeper for keeping them in this but it's Europa who has been making the game.
Meanwhile I have finally figured out that number 16—who has been playing very well—is named Izan. His long hair kept covering the back of his jersey. …apparently it's pronounced Ethan.
Unlike with the Guardian's MBMs no one emailed during the break bit still, we're back. 45 minutes to turn this around. If they keep up the pressure from the first half it's very possible. With the upside that we'll have a better view of the winning goal now!
We've already gone close twice. First a cross from Izan is pit just over by the up coming left back and then a long ball is chipped just wide.
Starting to go a bit scrappy and threatening to tip into ill tempered with fouls and chances on both sides. Now a corner for Seville but nothing comes of it.
We've seen the first substitutions from Europa but still searching for that equalizer.
THERE. IT. IS. 1–1 in the 68'. VAR took ages and uncomfortable ages to confirm but it stands. Game on! But sheesh, that var check was a bad look and bad for the atmosphere.
Third yellow for Seville in the 88' for a foul just to the right of the box. Going into a tense last few minutes here with at least 9 minutes added on. Europa still very much trying for the winner.
One last corner. VAR for a penalty! Not given. Again. We play on for a bit but then peep peep peeeeeeeep. It ends 1–1. Really felt like there was more in that at times but I think Europa can be proud of how they played and the fans showed great spirit and atmosphere. Now we go get falafel. Thanks for hanging out with me at Nou Sardenya!
