Dear Bobby, when your dad was in the government it was the early 1960s... 60+years ago. We have learned much more about how to identify, treat and cure chronic diseases since then. That means people who were left to die from untreated chronic diseases then are getting treated and living today.
It also means that previously unknown chronic diseases have been discovered, allowing us to treat people who would never have received treatment back in the 60s.
And thinks about our development of cancer therapies that let people who would have died young from cancer in the 60s live long and often cancer-free lives.
Oh yeah, and long after the 60’s we’ve tried to reduce air pollution to try to roll back the massive impact it has on chronic lung diseases… which, by the way, the Trump Admin is undoing much of that effort.
So, the rampant use of fossil fuel (like coal from the strip mines you used to fight against) has definitely increased chronic diseases in America since the 1960s. That is why we spend more on chronic diseases today compared to when your dad was in office. #RFKMustGo
