@Drmowinckels my grandmother recently had a CT scan and I asked the radiologist "so...where is Olga?" "Olga?" "You know the machine that will tear little micro black holes into your skin" "Ohhhhh....you mean an MRI! We don't have one. The hospital is too cheap to buy one but oh I want to work with one" they're like $7 mill not including the cryonically frozen faraday caged room they have to be in. Only 4 in the entire country! Wow!

@praetor there are many more thank in Norway, just to be clear! In Oslo there at at least 10 alone (also counting the private health corporations). But they are all, understandably, clinical, making access for researcher very hard! They are also not coordinated in any way, making larger national studies hard for those of us wanting more population based studies.

We want to have four research driven scanners in the largest academic section of Norway, which we can coordinate for better acience

@praetor and a state of the art MRI, including initial helium for freezing is about 20mill NOK (without counting installation and other infrastructure needs of the machine). So yeah, its a big investment. But could give Norway and amazing boost to understanding the human brain.
@Drmowinckels Well, I'm a little ol' systems architect in the US with healthcare experience. Just don't use cloud stuff for the data storage backend. Here in the US we're having a hell of a time getting things HIPPA certified because the state of AI has left retention standards nebulous. Best to always role your own. Disks are cheap.
@praetor we would use the national cloud and computing storage that is hosted and localised in Norway (TSD, SAFE and HUNT) which are made for the purpose of keeping the data safe. They are cumbersome to use for us researchers, but they are at least as safe as you can get.
@Drmowinckels that's really good. Because they're using patient data to train AIs without explicit patient consent. As usual, Norge does things better.
@praetor Yeah I know, its so bad! We dont always do it better though! Theres a new patient system, from the US, that is being slowly and rather silently (imo) being implemented in Norwegian hospitals that sens UNENCRYPTED patient data to the US for processing.... I'm never stepping foot in those hospitals as long as possible. I have no idea how they claim data protection is in place for this, because it very clearly is not.
@Drmowinckels yeah. It's becoming a mess..like many IT workers, I refuse to work with the AI stuff purely because all the training data is thefted. Including patient data that is not fully encrypted and you never got consent to use.

@praetor You have a norwegian name and flag, but I dont know if you know Norwegian, but this is so bad I can't believe its happening.

@Drmowinckels I'm learning. I'm wanting to immigrate there pretty bad. Lots and lots of reasons.
