Vodafone Germany 2025: Still no IPv6 if you run your modem/router/wifi box in Bridge Mode

8/8 Competence and Service. We're futuring over here! Put on your internet goggles and enjoy the ride on the data autobahn 😎

Ok nevermind. Vodafone v6 im Bridge Mode works but I had to configure it completely differently to what the intergoogles say. In Unifi I had to set it to SLAAC (single network) instead of Prefix Delegation on WAN and LAN.

Anyhoozle - finally got v6 at home which definitely didn't work in my previous - non-business contract.

@hukl I recently bought the ARRIS CM3500 B CE, which is a modem only and accepted/provisionable by vodafone kabel (west). Unifi WAN DHCPv6 + prefix delegation (/56). LAN SLAAC, which is imho fine. Works like a charm and finally no double ipv4-NAT anymore (FritzBox as the router).

@simonhard Yeah I might need a 3rd party modem as well because I've just realized that my Router/Modem isn't in Bridge Mode … although I've enabled it through the website but turns out they show my previous Vodafone Router/Modem there … *sigh

Do you know what the "B CE" stands for? Because I also see it in this shop without that suffix: https://netcon.store/arris/238/arris-cm3500-docsis-3.1-2.5g-port

@hukl I think, support for eurodocsis 3.1 (CE). But I don‘t know.
In the end the selection seems quite small for modem only solutions at vf.

Bought it here: https://www.werner-electronic.de/kabelmodem-arris-cm3500-b-ce-25-gbps-lan-port
The shop seems to address stuff to people like us :)
They also mention the predecessors of the ARRIS modem which are generally available at eBay etc

@hukl get ready for 30 minutes of question marks at the vf activation hotline and a consulted 3rd level tech, who confirmed the device is ok and provisionable. After 2h of waiting it worked…
@simonhard @hukl this sounds really interesting fo me. I’m currently running Vodafone with my TC4400. IPv4 and IPv6 work, but I’m having problems with prefix delegation because I only get a /64. Right now, I have no idea how to obtain a /56 from Vodafone. Do you think this is a Vodafone issue or a firmware problem with the TC4400?

@greenchapter I think it‘s a backbone issue. The modem is imho on layer 1 & 2.
Or the TC4400 does the PD by itself and forwards only /64. but I can‘t imagine that.

I‘m at vf west (unitymedia). Maybe you‘re not.
