I need to get a new bank. #BangkokBank is such a bad service… they were just easy to set up. I don’t have the same fears of the account closures against tourists, DTV or ED visa holders, but more just how everything is handled. I just tried to send a response email to them in their UI… but the UI is TIS-encoded which means I can’t use English punctuation. When trying to submit you get an error of unsupported characters with no position, & after 15 minutes you are automatically signed out even in the middle of tasks like email without a popup to prevent the refresh, just lost data—& considering the amount time spent trying to construct without punctuation is annoying.

What’s the response I’m trying to make? I asked why SMS is the the 2FA option & how to use it abroad. They said to turn on roaming (expensive). I was trying to yell yet again that at to do the industry standard of FIDO2/TOTP. These aren’t subject to SIM swapping making them more secure, but also aren’t proprietary & do not require a phone, a phone plan, or trusting the phone carriers. Same bank also tries to tell me root/admin access on my phone is unauthorized behavior as if they were the owner of my phone, not me.

@toastal I use DBS, and if I dare to try to open the Internet backing application while in the car, I get red screen with an error explaining that someone is illegal capturing screen content (well yeah, that's how Android Auto works).

Also, their stock trading application don't allow be to paste passwords. Very fun when using password manager with 35 character passwords.

@loke Bangkok Bank doesn’t allow paste either… if you look in the code, they have detection for Netscape Navigator 4 lol.
@toastal On the web you can at least fix it. Doing it on the mobile application should be illegal.
@loke I mean you solved it yourself. Mobile applications should be illegal. It should all be able to run thru the browser sandbox on the portable platform of the web with better platform support & less lock-in. With Google’s failed (so far) attempt at getting attestation in Chrome, we could be happy that the banking app can no longer tell you how you are allowed to use your own machine.
