Texas has always done some shady shit to SSI recipients. One of my best friends in California had an adult son living with her, back then I think the SSI payment was about $700 a month.

Then he moved to Texas to live in a shack that she owned. And I guess because he was living in his mother’s property his SSI payment went down by $300. He was living in his mother’s property in California because there is no state in this country where you can rent a place when your income is only $700 a month.

Also I remember when the rest of the country was getting pandemic snap benefits except for people in Texas or Florida. Maybe the people with kids got them, but old/disabled people were still trying to survive with $16-$23 SNAP a month while the rest of the country was getting the maximum benefit amount for their household size regardless of the income.

A think tank has estimated that over 275,000 people could face benefit reductions and over 100,000 could lose SSI eligibility entirely.

Speaking of snap, I’m a single woman in New Hampshire and my only income is SSDI. My calculation of my medical expenses seems like I only spent three dollars more per month than I did last year, but my food stamps went up like $30. I’m really excited about this.

This will probably only last a month or two because in October they make changes if there are congressional changes made to the amounts, but I expected them to go down even though my medical expenses went up. They didn’t yet.
