#ScribesAndMakers 8/27. What is a genre or style that you think is underappreciated?

I think the genre Romance should really lose the stigma of being for people of either low intellect, ambition, or, in general, somewhat silly persons only.
That's a relic from past stereotypes and patriarchy. Please, let's lose that attitude.

I bow to all you romance writers out there.

@anderlandbooks

BUT the problem with romance writing is that that patriarchy you mentioned has used it as a tool for a very long time to convince people (especially women) that that is reality ... when it's not even close. And most do a disservice to marriage by STOPPING right before it alluding to the idea that all the "good stuff" ends there. The idea is to convince girls that if we "follow the script" our lives will be this way. Problem is seldom ever are males given (or even want) a copy.

@rcintl Oh, I'm all for disruptive romance stories. Let's lose the patriarchy, let's have strong women. Let's get rid of the myth that the *first time* has to hurt (total bs, btw, says the ob/gyn).
There are so many chances. Let's write a beauty and the beast with roles reversed.

@anderlandbooks That's what I'm doing. My problem (being an unknown) is writing about BIPOC and LGBTQIA people. And DON'T let the characters be BOTH!! I get a LOT of "great story but why are there so many ... (fill in the blank) ... ?"

The women are glorious w/out putting the men down and the LGBTQIA people frolic EVERYWHERE where they belong.

Thing is (sigh) I need to eat too and the gatekeepers don't care. "Change this and we'll talk!" If it were my work, I'd understand, but ... (gggrrr)

@rcintl Yup, I get it. That is why I kept my day job. Gives me the freedom to write what I want to read too

@anderlandbooks

I feel you. Thing with me isn't so much "freedom" as it is it's who I am ... it's ALL I am. I literally could spend every second of my life happily doing NOTHING but creating ... seeing nothing and no one else ... and I love my fam. But I absolutely suck at everything else. That doesn't go well on a resume. I'm just fortunate that EVERYTHING is "creation" of some sort. I've been stumbling along ...

@anderlandbooks ... took me a while, but I just wrote the "Beauty and the Beast" in reverse. Well, sort of. I was sick of seeing rich yte guy save the poor, pitiful girl (of any race) and while the guy isn't exactly a beast (he's gorgeous!) he's the poor one and the girl comes from a rich fam. She encourages him to save himself and he saves them both. I'm kind of proud. I just posted it.
