stopping "sideloading" does nothing to keep users safe. there's plenty of malware, spyware, and other warez on both the Apple App Store and on Google Play that a user can install from a "trusted source". i trust the openly available source code of an application i am downloading from a GitHub page more than any "verification" process from Google or Apple. nothing will beat just having the instruction set openly available for all to see.
@taco, bird/cat :verified420: It's never been about keeping users safe. Since when have Apple or Google ever cared about things like that?
@chirpbirb Unfortunately we don't live in a world where open source is valued for it's transparency, we live in a world where closed source is valued for it's potential to make money.
And this brain rot is so invasive that even the every day user is convinced that software from big corporations is always safer than stuff from a single person or small group of open source creators.
That's just the sad state of affairs we're in.
@xoagray @chirpbirb yeah it really seems the "bad guys" of the software world eventually made it to the top
@Antiroo @chirpbirb Sometimes even the good guys become the bad guys when they have to work in the "money is all that matters" world.
@chirpbirb facebook is malware but that's somehow allowed
