Vittala Temple, Hampi, Karnataka, India 2025 IR trichrome, Hexar RF, Sankyo 35mm 3.5 (I think!), Rollei IR Maybe my favorite #TrichromeParty shot to date. I shot this same view in plain IR last year, but this is better. #BelieveInFilm #TrichromeEverything ๐ŸŽž๏ธ๐Ÿ“ธ
Same composition, sitting in same spot, single IR exposure, Pentax 645n, 45-85 f4, 2023
@chadhill.bsky.social Love that. Looks like you were able to change filters very quickly, was that by just holding over the lens? And how d'you get the IR exposure right so quick?
Yes, just holding up big square cheap cokin-style filters that are big enough for any of my lenses. Can lay them out next to me where I can reach them rapidly without changing position. Downside is the occasional finger! ๐Ÿ˜… IR metered TTL (and filter) which often works fine depending on the meter.

@chadhill.bsky.social My filters are Cokin A; the R and G filters are ok, but there isn't a proper Blue. I'm using a 80A which I think is a correction filter (in a Cokin holder), but you're right, it would be simpler to just hold them in front of the lens. I could buy a proper blue then (maybe P).

I didn't think there was a square IR filter?

I've been using my Pentax ME (A priority max 8 seconds), but for IR maybe better to use the LX.

Do you adjust the focus with the IR filter?

Iโ€™m not generally worried about color fidelity with trichromes and Iโ€™m super hard on my filters, so Iโ€™ve just been buying cheap off-brand filters! Only the IR filter is a โ€œrealโ€ filter and that is an actual cokin but it is their round one that slots into the square holders. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
Iโ€™m not adjusting focus for IR, generally, for trichromes. Trying to emphasize speed over accuracy. And assuming some variability in focus will get evened up in the post processing, like pan sharpening satellite images! If Iโ€™m just shooting IR, and taking my time, then I will.
