@massivelyop 1999 - you know what happened that year... :)

@Ringo6 @massivelyop yes, how could anyone forget the Day of Lavos

Apocalypse

The Apocalypse (世界崩壊, Sekai Hōkai?), also referred to as the Day of Lavos (ラヴォスの日, Ravosu no Hi?) or Cataclysm, occurs in year of 1999 AD at 1:24 when Lavos is set to destroy the world in Chrono Trigger. @massivelyop I started to pay attention with FFXI. It was my first real MMO followed that year by the original GW. I had many a great days, weekends, and evenings with these games. From there I began to spread out into all kinds of games in the genre and I haven't completely ever stopped, despite the lack of any games really holding me in a while.
@massivelyop i heard of them at the turn of the century, back when DAOC and SWG were a thing (but mostly despised them at the time).
My first spark of interest was a bit later, when I heard of an upcoming game which would be called Middle-Earth Online (spoiler: it ended up being #LOTRO )...
@massivelyop In 2004 I'd just started dating someone who was playing Eve Online and I saw them finish up a mission and dock to log off safely. I thought it looked awesome as I'd always been a big sci-fi fan and video gamer, and flying spaceships with friends online in a huge brutal galaxy sounded more interesting than some fantasy elf thing I'd heard about called EverQuest...
@massivelyop my path to MMOs came through virtual worlds. It started with The Sims Online and then There.com. While playing There I met a lot of people who were playing other games and that somehow led me to playing Lineage 2.
@massivelyop I was a big Ultima fan from back in day, and spent a lot of time in college in the assorted Ultima newsgroups on usenet. I saw promos for the upcoming UO and swore it off as I knew it would cause me to not graduate. Played it promptly after getting my degree in summer of ’98 and have been hooked on the genre since!
@massivelyop Guild Wars 1, shortly after it's release. Didn't know what an MMORPG was, but it was hella fun. Stopped it for a 6 month stint over in WoW, but I couldn't get into WoW. Went back to GW, still playing it today and it's successor.
@massivelyop tibia..then i saw at a lan party with friends DAoC. But really into MMOs got me WoW. Who i also never really played.
Oh I forgot Phantasy Star Online on my Dreamcast.
