@markhburton back in the day the Israelis and allies used to boast of making the desert bloom. Presumably now these monsters have uprooted living trees there is a desert which they can make bloom. I once met an UNRWA official after the 6-Day War who reckoned that he too could make the tomatoes grow in the desert if the US also supplied water and fertiliser, and dollar bills to plant them in.

It was an 'argument' used by Zionism supporters to justify the dispossession of Palestinians. Starmer mentioned it a couple of years ago. Along the lines of "the Arabs never did anything with the land".
A total myth of course. The peoples of the Levant developed sustainable cultivation and husbandry appropriate for the conditions. It was the Zionists that introduced unsustainable petroleum-subsidised methods.
