If only proponents of dangerous unconstitutional nonsense like #Chatcontrol were legally required to pay fees to everyone whose time they squander every time we have to scramble to prevent abysmally bad legislation from being passed ...
@quincy Those people are so dumb. The sh*t they propose would affect everyone, including the proposing parties. It makes no sense; they can't control it anyway. The algorithms are out. PGP is also available for anyone. There is yet no judicial justification for it. It is against the core principles of Western judiciary principles like nemo tenetur se ipsum accusare—no one is obliged to participate in any judicial actions against oneself. Total nonsense. How should whistleblowers do their job 1/2

@quincy 2/2 How should journalists do their job? How should activists and human rights advocates act when there is no right to not disclose oneself? How can we pretend to be free when even our thoughts are disclosed? Total brainrot, imho. #chatcontroll
Proposals like this are right out of the playbook of totalitarianism—a way that leads to dictatorship.

@nemo

And the more this abysmal "idea" is left to fester, the worse it gets: they now believe so much in magic fairy dust ("AI") that they now want to feed all our communication to "an AI" (some kind of oracle run by some "AI" corporation) that will, in their imagination, somehow be magically reliable.

That's now also part of this whole toxic brew.

As you say - total brainrot.

@nemo It's as if one didn't merely wake up in the wrong future or wrong movie - but that movie is also some kind of joke.
@quincy The only reason those people have such a phallocentric love for AI and LLMs is to further receive the most inner thoughts of humans so that they can further commodify, control, and manipulate them. LLMs are the perfect surveillance tool—one can use them psychologically to make folks believe they help, while all the data goes to the Stasi. Now you have an LLM Stasi brother and Big Brother right in your pocket— (1/2)
@quincy (2/2) you can tell them everything, wink wink. Surveillance capitalism digitizes into surveillance fascism.

@nemo And this is why I can never "embrace" such technology but will continue to fight it - likewise "smart" technology that is designed to spy on tenants ...

eventually, some of these struggles tend to become "told you so"s, but why oh why can't most people see the dangers? often the intentions or potentials for abuse are quite clearly telegraphed ...

@quincy How should they, if they get bombarded daily with thousands of different information bombs? Everyone gets a daily dose and is spammed with all sorts of different information. Their capacity may cause a cognitive buffer overflow, I’d say. Or maybe people just walk around on autopilot — who knows. Distraction is a weapon of mass destruction
@nemo Weaponized distraction is a thing, for sure.
