David, a Bostonian in Tokyo.Facebook's seriously obnoxious (I lasted about 30 seconds), but LinkedIn is fine. (I found friends from my Boston days (1952-1980) there that I had failed to find other ways. Just don't follow anyone, and it doesn't bother you much.)
It's pretty funny, too. It thinks "Retired Translator" is someone looking for work, distributes my CV all over the place, and brags about it.
