Arguably, this is the entire appeal of the hellfire doctrine. It’s not really in the Bible at all–there are scriptures you can kinda interpret that way, but you can kinda interpret another way, too. It’s bolted on to Christianity and repeated from the pulpit so often that the pews don’t notice that it isn’t really there.
