in the week before defcon i took my wifes #PoloroidBadge idea from concept to dev board prototype, and in the week after defcon ive completed the first draft of the schematic for the production version

i cloned espressifs ESP32 S3 dev board and adafruits powerboost 1000c with some modifications to add the usb data, add usb-only power, and make the usb plug C.

new to the original design are a lot more LEDs, cap touch for fun reasons, way more buttons (testing, toggle between resistors, etc) in addition to 3 more UI buttons and motherfucking haptic feedback, and shitload of debug indicator LEDs

this will not be dirt cheap, rather than minmax for cost i am minmaxing for feature and quality, this will be a badgelife badge and i will gouge you for it.
doing this is how other people have spent the last several years stacking up enormous funding for their projects. if i want to make and sell dirt cheap hacking tools, i also need to wring out the badge collector people at defcon.
dont get me wrong, this badge will be fucking art and i will be as happy to take your money as you will be to give it to me.
i am only going to make 100 for public sale, fewer than 10 to give away, and at least 1 special one for EFF auction
the display alone on these costs about $35, its an expensive device before even adding the extra bits like accelerometer and haptic driver+motor

LEDS:

- 20 WS2812 RGB
- lipo power
- charging indicator
- charged indicator
- low battery indicator
- 5v, 3.3v, 2.8v, 1.5v power indicators at LDO outputs
just over budget on pins, need to convert push buttons to an ADC ladder and that will make the last bit of room needed, that will complete peripheral schematic work and i can move to netting to GPIOs then pay someone to review it
after that is the really fun part :D the board layout and design, which i plan to get meticulous as fuck on and make it extremely god damn beautiful
considering crowdfunding or doing philanthropist units to fund getting them fabbed and assembled since theyre going to have such a high unit cost

What kind of per unit cost are you estimating?
