I’m a leftist living in a rural southern area. I encounter these people every day. The vast majority of people have had their sources of information deliberately poisoned and their views are rational but they’re built on lies (which, again, are deliberately created to have this effect).
Yeah, there are definitely bigots and people who would support this crap even without the massive disinformation campaign. But, most of them are ignorant and being misled.
Those people can have their views changed if the firehose of bullshit is interrupted. This is impossible if you’re creating an environment where you’re attacking people who are redeemable.
Your enemy isn’t other poor people, your enemy is the elites who are deliberately poisoning people’s perception of the world in order to obtain power.
