CrowdBucks

CrowdBucks is a Fediverse-native crowd-funding, tipping, payments, and membership platform

@crowdbucks the website is extremely sparse and does not explain anything for me before asking me to authorize it for login. there are no details about the platform, how payments are handled, or any of it.

It took way more searching than it should have taken to find out the basics like who coded it and what processor. (More frustrating to spend that time to just find out it's Stripe, which excludes me.)

I think your goals are noble, but the opacity is very unhelpful.

@thoughtpunks Thanks for the thoughtful feedback πŸ™ You’re right β€” the site needs more upfront info before asking for login.

CrowdBucks is open-source, built by our small team, and currently uses Stripe for payments (which means some countries are excluded).

We’re working on making the homepage clearer and more informative, so it’s easier to understand without logging in.

Out of curiosity, which country are you in? It’ll help us explore payment options beyond Stripe. 🌱

The current CrowdBucks website is still an MVP.

The idea was to release something (i.e., the current CrowdBucks website) now rather than to wait until everything is "perfect". And, then improve it.

Especially since CrowdBucks was demoed at the recent FediCon conference. (The video for the CrowdBucks demo at FediCon should go online at @fedicon soon.) It was felt that some website should be up for the demo.

So, (as you suggested) explanations on the website are coming. But, we haven't gotten to it yet. But, we agree with you that they are very much needed.

(BTW, if there are additional questions you feel should be answered on the CrowdBucks website, mention them β€” and then those could be added, too, to the website.)

Regarding Stripe.

Stripe is the first payment mechanism added to CrowdBucks. It isn't meant to be the only one.

More are coming.

...

Are there any particular payment mechanism you prefer?

(If there is, we could try to prioritize it higher on our TO-DO list.)
