I think I have a problem.
@headius hindi!
@deobald I really want to return to it. I tried it when it was a beta course and it was dreadful then. My love language is writing systems and I would love to be able to read Hindi every time I visit India. Maybe Tamil as well.

@headius tamil is hard because it’s not phonetic. so you kind of need to learn the entire (spoken) language first. but hindi is very doable!

duo is still awful for hindi but much better than it used to be. weirdly, rosetta stone is still the best resource i’ve found.

@deobald Thanks for the info! I have been impressed with the Japanese course. They do a good job of easing you into hiragana and katakana with practical examples. I surprised myself a few days ago by being able to read some simple Japanese signs at Schiphol airport.
@headius Impressive. I gave up DL at 20k πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ because it showed no sign of hope of becoming somewhat useful... and I still live here. No regrets after seeing the strong AIification
@arnaud Primarily I use DL to learn to read these languages, but I get that it's probably not going to be the best way to get conversational.
