Is there a consumer-grade GitLab in EU? All the alternatives assume a corporate account (dedicated host) and seem to start at €50/month for a team/company service.

I want to be paying that _per year_ like I am with GitHub (and GitLab!)

Dear GitHub users. Forgejo exists (and is the software behind Codeberg). Radicle exists. Sourcehut exists. You’re welcome to join! And with forgefed we also have a federated approach. We were building all of that while you were sleeping ;)

@tastapod Theres a variety of EU GitLab hosts e.g. https://www.stackhero.io/en-US/services/GitLab/pricing

@tastapod £50/year per user, right?

@sleepyfox Not sure where you're seeing that. I'm seeing £49/*month* for their 'hobby' tier.

@tastapod @sleepyfox that's the price you pay for OSA compliance
@jackeric @sleepyfox Not sure how that is relevant. There was no consumer alternative before OSA, and I'm not seeing how OSA would have any bearing on a service that offered git hosting.
@tastapod @sleepyfox oh, you have user accounts, you can message other users - commit messages and issues and so on - what if the other users are under 18, oh won't somebody please think of etc

@jackeric @sleepyfox Look, I love that you are up in arms about this entirely pointless and unenforceable legislation, but I still don't see how it has any bearing on (the lack of) a consumer-grade git forge.

It's not like there was one and it suddenly went out of business or locked out UK users. I'm just surprised that no one is doing this.

@tastapod @sleepyfox

Not GitLab, but there is https://codeberg.org andhttps://forgejo.org for commercial projects

Codeberg.org

Codeberg is a non-profit community-led organization that aims to help free and open source projects prosper by giving them a safe and friendly home.

@tastapod 100/month instance looks sensibly sized for 20 users, probably more. But still not 'startup cheap'.
Sourcehut is 10/month/user, which is probably more the model you're after. I use them and can recommend them.
@sleepyfox oh thanks, that does look more like it. So you are a 'professional' rather than 'typical' hacker?
@tastapod That's what they tell me, but I think I'm more 'typical hacker' to be honest.
@sleepyfox ooh, Sourcehut sounds interesting. So it’s active encouragement towards a mailing flow for sharing? Have you noticed any changes in willingness to collaborate from others from switching? Or did I read the website too quick? 🙂
@gaqzi No, I haven't, but then I haven't migrated the majority of my public projects off of GitHub yet.
