We are impressed with the new https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ website, and the way it provides all the info needed to engage in distributed diverse action to prevent the EU from preparing the ground for, or sliding into, authoritarianism by breaking end-to-end encryption for everyone. Germany and France are particularly important to engage with and we'll see what we can do from our circles. We don't know the people behind @chatcontrol but big kudos!

dear delta.chat team, could you please try and explain to the community how can we leverage delta-chat to protect ourselves in light of the new european (but not only!) chat control laws?

for example, if a server is hosted in europe, will it be unsafe, due to the law requiring it to give out the data? can we assume that the test servers are safe?
how can we protect ourselfes and help our friends move to deltachat?

@turtle @delta @chatcontrol without the actual law being there, it's impossible to say. but it's safe to say that the servers couldn't be forced to give out decrypted messages, because they can't decrypt them. Whether a messenger app can be forced to implement backdoors, and how easily you can use a messenger app which doesn't have the backdoors built in, remains to be seen. But it's unlikely they can prevent people from using secure apps, maybe from building & releasing them under their name.

@delta @chatcontrol Do you know how to contact them? As @whvholst pointed out, they're misdirecting effort towards mailing MEPs, when it is the Council of Ministers that will be deciding about chatcontrol soon.
