It may take weeks or even months to replace windows and clean up the damage at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters in Atlanta, according to information circulated internally at the agency.

@ai6yr one might have thought that an attack like this would be a huge story, but it seems to have disappeared from most news sites already.
@kajord Yep... don't know what is up with that.

@ai6yr @kajord its only 2 people dead, for 30 odd years I've heard USA journalists pointing out that something like this is considered a minor shooting incident and doesn't get that much reporting.

Also in the mid 2000s I read a quite graphic document from US healthcare professionals and the feds about dealing with injuries from IEDs, it mentioned that there were quite a lot of these happening in various places (it was from sources that have no gain from lying, might even have been the CDC) but comparatively few of them actually got reported in USA news...

@vfrmedia @kajord It's a fairly significant target, however.
@ai6yr @kajord the DVLA (British equivalent of DMV) as well as just about every other public sector organisation quite often get white powder packages, hoax IED calls, attempts at harrassing staff etc (usually from "sovereign citizen" / manosphere /alt-right types) but these rarely make the news for more than a few days..
@vfrmedia @ai6yr this was not a hoax or mysterious white powder, it was 180 rounds fired at the headquarters of a federal agency that shut down multiple buildings, potentially for weeks. It seems quite lucky no CDC staff was injured. I have to imagine that if this had happened in DC it would have gotten more attention than in Atlanta, but still strangely quiet.
@kajord @ai6yr often the media are *told* not to report too much on some incidents, not even as a cover-up but to prevent copycat attacks, and its quite likely that USA govt buildings are more vulnerable than anyone wants to admit, especially with all this DOGE and cost-cutting..
@kajord @ai6yr I got this confused with the other story about the guy shooting up the NFL office. Can't keep them straight any more.
@kajord @ai6yr Yeah how am I hearing of this just now? This is an attack on a government agency. I guess that's not major news now?
