See, it’s because 1337 resembles the word “LEET,” short for “elite.”
I know but counting the infected machines and stopping at a specific number is hard if there is limited bandwidth (or no bandwidth in case of sneakerware). So early viruses could not be controlled once released nor tell if there’s 1337 copies already.
The word “1337” is an important part of the hacker lexicon
I know. I’m just saying it was near-impossible to hack exactly 1337 machines in one attack back then.
