A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to the "Aztec" Ruins National Monument. Aztec is in quotes because the site was misattributed to Aztecs. I suppose it was too much to ask the people whose families have lived in this area for a millennium.
But I digress, this was very interesting insight into an ancient culture. I hear Chaco canyon is much more extensive, but I'll have to save it for another trip. This site is within a mile of the New Mexico town of Aztec, so quite accessible.
Notable is the restored great kiva. It was quite an experience walking through, imagining the past. I never know quite how much to trust these restorations, but I hope they're at least mostly accurate.
