Exploring a move from Plex to Jellyfin for my homelab. If you’re on iOS and use Jellyfin, definitely take a look at @manetmusic

Native iOS (and MacOS) client for music streaming that feels really nice!

#Homelab #SelfHosted #Jellyfin

@phillip since I have lifetime, #Plex is still not enshittified enough to make me move.

@pax0707 I have lifetime too and the day to day usage of it is still solid. However, plex’s analytics is one of my top blocked domains via AGH which doesn’t make me feel great. Plus their data processing partner list is crazy long, and not something I’d prefer to walk my friends and family through opting out when they join my server.

Still exploring and messing around though. Probably going to run them side by side and see what some of my less techie friends think of it compared to plex. Plex definitely has a more modern UI and wider platform support

@phillip absolutely agree with everything you said.
@phillip been on JF for some time now, and @manetmusic is my daily driver for music. A couple a small issues for my use, but a very responsive developer and a pretty well polished product.
@dwev @manetmusic It certainly seems like it. Feels extremely similar to Apple Music. I love the “show me a random album” button on the homepage too
@phillip @manetmusic also - very reasonable premium price, so it’s not even a question for me to upgrade to Manet+, regardless of my economic situation.
@dwev @manetmusic Premium is a pretty reasonable price. I do wish there was a one-time purchase option though.
@phillip @manetmusic I don’t mind the low annual price. It was the same with Plex, I’m glad I only had an annual account, and not the lifetime, as that could have prevented me from discovering JF (sunk costs and all that.)
@dwev @manetmusic I’m always good with subscriptions in cases where the devs have to host something on their end, or have some kind of ongoing cost. With entirely local apps like Manet, it becomes a case-by-case situation for me. I’ll probably end up subscribing because I like the app and want to support the dev, but it’s just one more reminder to put in my subscription calendar.
