Codeberg – the center for requests, code and feature discussions.

Out of 260,000 Codeberg projects, CoMaps is #7! And the CoMaps project is rising! If you would like to show your support to help it rise further, give CoMaps a star:

@CoMaps With filter off you are #4
@CoMaps just between GadgetBridge and Tenacity, two projects I use and love like CoMaps. Happy to see you there and congrats!
CoMaps is now #4!

@CoMaps congrats.
Btw could accrescent app store be an option, too?
Looked a bit into how:
"Sign-up is not yet available to the general public and is only permitted for allowlisted GitHub accounts." & "If you are not allowlisted and are still interested in publishing on Accrescent, you may contact us at [email protected] to request being allowlisted."
From their docs:
https://accrescent.app/docs/guide/getting-started/new-app.html

Support Accrescent app store

https://github.com/organicmaps/organicmaps/issues/9909#issuecomment-2559915461 If there is interest in publishing on Accrescent, a dev from CoMaps needs to contact Accrescent at contact at accrescent.app and then use their Github account to login after their Accrescent account gets approved

@CoMaps
That appears to be a members only feature. It asked me to sign in when I clicked the star.
@leeloo I mean yeah, just like Github, Gitlab and any other git service, you can only star a repo if you have an account (free)

@thibaultmol
So probably something that should only be advertised to menbers of said members only club, and not on a service where most people don't hand out their personal information (such as email) to every website they stumble upon...

The people who sign up on every website, you'll probably find them over on Twitter, Facebook and Google Play.

@leeloo ... I feel like you're way overreacting about this... The only thing they need is an email address and you could generate a random one if you really wanted to.

Also calling it a members only club.... It's a website with a signup form like every other website... Don't phrase it like it's some kind of subscription platform bullshit, cause it's not

@thibaultmol
I'm not overreacting. My intention was a simple recommendation that this is probably not the platform where you want to assume people just sign up willy-nilly, but it appears that I need to be way more clear:

No, I will absolutely not sign up, and asking me to is a red flag.

@leeloo considering they're asking people to Star on a similar alt platform, I don't think it's that unreasonable.
It's not like they're asking people to sign up on github which would be a commercial platform by Microsoft. They're asking people to sign up on codeberg which is an open source small German company/org (truly the mastodon equivalent of git platforms)

@thibaultmol
Asking people to sign up is a red flag, period. Most people don't even have more than one set of email/password, but reuse the same everywhere. Each new place they sign up makes that security problem larger*

Also, you forgot the word centralised: ...of centralised Git platforms.

Which is a pretty bit omission when Git itself is decentralised - like Mastodon.

Of course the Mastodon way of doing it would be to implement ActivityPub and count each favorite as a star.

*) For me it's the opposite Signing up means having to go to my deskto pc, dig out my password manager, unlock, generate a password... That's enough time wasted that I ought to charge for it.

@leeloo
- Codeberg is an instance of Forgejo
- Forgejo is an open source spinoff from gitea that's actually run by a community instead of corpo
- Forgejo is working on forge federation
one of many steps required for the work on federation https://codeberg.org/meissa/forgejo/pulls/24
https://forgefed.org/
WIP: feat(activitypub): use structure @[email protected]:port for actors

This is an experimental continuation of the work by @realaravinth in this PR https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/pulls/4778 - which was spun off by the PR here: https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/pulls/3128, this still has a long way to go, but this is mostly an experiment as I'm exploring fed...

@thibaultmol
Are you making a point or just posting ads now?

Because it looks like the latter.

@thibaultmol @leeloo "Star farming" is not a good trend anyway. There have been some very toxic examples of this.

@CoMaps do we really to get the social media features a lot of people don't like from GitHub on Codeberg too? :/

Don't get me wrong, I like the project but I also dislike all of these social media features from GitHub
