It's beginning to sound a lot like Tuba Christmas

Merry Tubachristmas! - Millennium Stage (December 2, 2024)

YouTube
All members of the Tuba family are invited to TubaChristmas. In this performance I can see tubas, sousaphones, baritone horns, and euphoniums

The majority of tonight’s music was arranged for Tubas and Euphoniums by American composer and author Alec Wilder (February 16, 1907 – December 24, 1980), who made arrangements for Sinatra’s radio backup choir and was one of the many composers and musicians who created “The Great American Songbook” in the early 20th century.

An additional 13 pieces were later arranged in the early 00s by American composer and music educator Norlan Bewley (, who specializes in Low Brass Instruments (trombone, euphonium, tuba)

Due to the space requirements of instruments from The Tuba Family and the size of the TubaChristmas orchestra (The Kennedy Center caps it every year at 300 and every year every space is reserved and accounted for!), the participants only rehearse together for about an hour prior to the actual performance and are spread out throughout the performance hall during the actual event

and, finally, just for fun here’s a short video about the behemoth that is the Subcontrabass tuba (https://youtu.be/OK1GDkvFdL4?si=ReoBXhx2Cb37KMZ-)

@analgesicsleep Double basses have a similar problem! Gaaah I'm going to have to teach each of our 3 new conductors this (maybe) #SymSat
@otheorange_tag I had fewer tension headaches once I joined Masterworks chorus and later University Women’s chorus b/c since I’m an Alto II/Contralto not being in the back rows of a choir (like I was in the professional children’s chorus and middle & high school choir) means I wasn’t having project as much to be heard
