among the many *important* emails i receive regularly is a warning about what shows are soon leaving netflix australia.

the list is not distressing, but one of my favourite shows to ignore is *greenleaf* — a USian mega-church story set in Memphis

it is so hard to reconcile all the villainous villainy and bizarre articles of faith with the idea of a caring god. but there are some great lines in this show

looking for a still from greenleaf, chanced upon this gif from the tv series *West Wing*

they made a running gag of Allison Janney’s height (1.83m / 6ft), then Kristin Chenoweth joined the cast… (all 4’11” or 1.5m)

as a short arse with lots of tall relos i found this amusing

incidentally, how did nature cram sooooooo much talent into chenoweth’s iddy biddy frame?

another favourite scene…

this time from true blood — a show which had enormous promise at the start but quickly (imo) became incredibly boring.

video description: we are in a diner in Bon Temps Louisiana. the cook at the grill is Lafayette - a drop dead gorgeous African American with eye makeup and silk headwrap. from shoulders down, he is wearing a dark singlet and camo pants.

when he learns that some white rednecks in the diner made a joke about aids, he carefully takes off his ear-rings before going to confront them.

YouTube

another favourite moment on film;

description of brief video;

bernadette peters as Marie in the 1979 movie The Jerk.
at this point in the story, her boyfriend’s massively obscene wealth has just evaporated overnight, everything in the mansion is being repossessed, and she describes how she feels about losing all the money

can’t seem to reduce the file size enough, so this one is a still photo with description:

the show was Offspring, with Asher Keddie as Nina, and Matthew Le Nevez as patrick. the characters are both surgeons who took an instant dislike for each other — presumably this is due to unresolved sexual tension (UST)

in this scene, nina and patrick are at a hospital sink, scrubbing.
nina avoids eye contact altogether, as patrick insults her.

patrick: you do know there is probably something clinically wrong with you… ?

nina: right… that your professional opinion, is it?

patrick: obviously i’m not qualified to give an official diagnosis…
there could be many things… none of them are good

nina: fuck you

patrick: … could be tourette’s

😂😂😂

@maudenificent

Great collection. If the man is the tent pole, bent, wobbly & replaceable, the woman is the canvas.

And the West Wing gif? I’m 5’10 & a half. (I think I still have the half.) 😂

@maudenificent yes. Alan Ball sets up incredible TV shows then gets bored with them and starts making bad decisions.
@maudenificent omg she is a force of nature!! and I loved that joke. you can see the DOP has gone to a mid-long shot just to fit them in the same frame.

@maudenificent The best example of this IMHO was when the cast of Seasme Street appeared on the show.

Big Bird comes and sits down next to CJ.

Silent. No dialogue. Just framing of the scene, looks at each other, and Big Bird’s happy head movements.

@maudenificent Ha, gosh! 😮

Fwiw, i never watched WW. Tbh, just not my fav Wing.

Otoh,
this is my fav Wing...

#GreenWing 🤪
@maudenificent I found many of the iddy bitty actors like Chenoweth, had oodles of presence.

@Tooden

she seems to have an enormous sense of fun (not to mention that voice)

@maudenificent Size has no bearing on contents. Spent 40 years with with someone 33cm shorter. ❤️
