@icyang

i actually had heard of the white terror (from a video game, of all places) but had no idea of the indigenous resistance, so thank you for the information

@ina @icyang for those of us grew up in Taiwan we knew him by his sinofied name, his grand daughter are one of 90s pop music singer 🙏 who still goes by their sinofied surname. Taiwan may be a democratic country now but racism against indigenous Austronesian remains deeply engrained

@kofanchen @ina the worst part? it's not a one-party issue. the entire political spectrum of Taiwan is racist as fuck.
whatever "transitional justice" is happening is a mere farce and the governments just play with Indigenous dignity like a toy...

@icyang @kofanchen

dang, im learning so much today

@ina @kofanchen sadly that's the reality... which is why i don't think i will ever be back in TWese social circles...
had ppl accuse me i'm "fake taiwanese" bcs i don't speak mandarin nor hokkien nor any of the Indigenous languages... fk off with that, not everyone is TW-born... i grew up in a household where i live now, and my parents spoke english or sometimes dutch, bcs my father doesn't speak mandarin. and my mother tried to assimilate for yrs to the belgian lifestyle LOL...
@icyang @ina there are voices in Taiwan trying to combat racism against Austronesian, people behind this podcast "my dear han people" are making a real effort to call out racial stereotypes. Unfortunately it is in Mandarin, after all it is the Mandarin speakers need to hear these.
