thrifting/looking on the used market for old tech really sucks if you're not in a major area
the times when one would find a CRT on the side of the road seem to be long gone
when it comes to online pickup stuff facebook marketplace is the only site worth giving a damn about and even then all of the "good" listings are out of state, hundreds of miles away

@esm idk one day last autumn i was going home from uni and there just was a vga lcd monitor standing by the road

i checked it, its mobo was dead but the screen was fine, i slapped a sticker on it saying "MOBO DEAD" and left it where it was. its further destiny is unknown, probably repurposed for parts in someone's homelab. or scrapped

@esm the times might be gone but the events still do happen
@esm I once did find a CRT on the side of the road in my neighborhood, but it was old. Like, REALLY old. Like, it probably only displayed in black and white old.

@esm facebook marketplace has been ruined by the scourge that is "I know what I got". people will list a 2008 dell inspiron laptop with a fucking celeron, throw linux mint xfce on it, and be like "yeah its $100 perfect for browsing the web"... like sure bro

the only good deal I've seen on fb marketplace was a powermac g4 cube with matching studio crt for $100 and unfortunately I was COMPLETELY broke at the time. :(
