I rarely hear Liverpudlians used, it's usually Scousers. Apparently it's quite contentious about who's a proper scouser or not. Something about the color of their bins.

Scousers comes from the name of the stew they eat. From the original name Lobscouse.

@jamesb If the name comes from the stew you eat, it seems that anyone who grew up eating that stew or regularly eats the stew would be a scouser. Identifying oneself by your trash bin seems so ... bureaucratic.
Then again, here people identify themselves with their telephone area code.
