I started obsessing over our list of movie night movies tonight and now it's way too late and I'm gonna be tired tomorrow... but...

We have a pretty compete list going back to when we started all this sometime in March 2020.

However we didn't actually start to track them each week until March of 2023. ("Top Secret" on Match 26th, 2023, to be precise.)

But I wasn't tracking the actual dates - it was just a list I'd add to it each week.

Tonight I decided to add the dates by working backward.

So now I have a weekly list with dates and movies starting from today (well, technically yesterday now) going all the way back to March 26, 2023. There is one gap, though. A single week I cannot figure out which movie we watched: Jan 7, 2024.

As far as we can remember, once we decided to do a weekly movie night, we've never missed one. Prior to March 26, 2023, the list was recreated from past searches and memory so it might be sketchy, but after that date, in theory, I have the exact history.

EXCEPT for that one week.

*whimper*

I hate incomplete data.

But.. I'm too tired and going to bed.

Also, none of this really matters.

@bigzaphod I read Mastodon via RSS and my RSS reader keeps posts forever, so I found it:
@jeff_tyrrill omg! savior!
@jeff_tyrrill oh no - I have that one listed as happening on 12/10 which is clearly wrong... so now the hole moved to 12/10! NOOO!!!
@bigzaphod I don't know if they pool history between users but the reader is Inoreader and you could follow https://mastodon.social/@bigzaphod/with_replies.rss to see if the entire history populates for you. Or if you're interested I could try to export it.

@jeff_tyrrill lol - now the gap moved again by one slot! Something suspicious is going on here...

Okay so I signed up for Inoreader and used that feed URL and lo- I've now filled in all the gaps! Woo hoo!

Hooray for services caching data forever, I guess?

Thanks for that!

(The mix up here ended up being caused by viewing both Elf and Die Hard on separate weeks but me not recording it on my list because they fell under the "Christmas movie" tradition and not the "movie night" tradition. 😛)

@bigzaphod Fellow listmaker! I started a list of *every movie I had seen* when I was 18. I was still young enough I could reach back into childhood and remember most of it. I read lists of the top movies each year on IMDB to try to fill more memory gaps. Been keeping the list ever since so it's probably 99% complete. Several movies on the list exist as descriptions of scenes rather than title, still need to chase some of them down.
@jeff_tyrrill ha - that's amazing. I'm not usually one to keep lists, but this movie night thing has a kind of semi-unwritten rule that we don't repeat any (except for the Christmas stuff) so then it became important to try to reconstruct a complete list. After awhile we started getting curious about when we watched a given movie, so now it's about 50% reconstructed with the dates. 🙂
