y'all i wish i could approach the level of chill my turtle is at in her sandbox right now...

god when i move to seattle it's going to be so hard to move them - so much so that i had resigned myself to give them up in the process

i've had winnie for 11 years (the beautiful girl in this photo) and hickory (a western painted turtle) for 26, i just don't have the heart to  they both were rescues i nursed back to health

i have no idea what going through an airport with two turtles in tow will entail lol

@eri
Are you moving from inside the US or outside? As long as both species are legal in Washington state it should be doable.

@neckspike i'll be moving from minnesota to washington

one is an african sideneck, and the other is a western painted

@eri @neckspike roadtrip?

@wmd @neckspike from the twin cities to seattle is one hell of a drive lol

i do need to get my car there too, but i was thinking about shipping it on a flatbed

@eri @neckspike hmm yeah maybe also not a nice one...

There is a train connection...

@eri
The western painted is a protected species in Washington, if you make a thread on a big herp forum like Morph Market you can probably find local keepers who know the laws well and definitely people with experience transporting turtles safely.
@neckspike that's a good idea, i'll check that out! it's been a while since i've frequented turtle forums lol
@eri imagining them each on their own seat next to you buckled in with a drink and a travel pillow or sleep mask

@eri a quick search suggests you may be allowed to take them in a carrier under your seat, depending on airline regulations and state laws.
I would check with turtle forums or Discord servers, or a travel agent.

I’m sure you’ll be able to take your little guys on this adventure.

@eri what you really don’t want is for them to go in the hold. It gets really really cold in there.
@MostlyBlindGamer ah that is very true lol, turning my turtles into ice cubes via checked luggage would be bad news ^_^'
@eri now I’m picturing a cute little ice cube turtle. Hehe. Tempting, but no.
@eri aaaaaaaaa so cute
@eri I'm being asked for the backstory of the cute lil critter :)

@zersiax hehe i love it :-)

let's see... her name's Winnie, she's an african sideneck turtle (pelomedusa variabilis), and she's about 12 years old. i rescued her from a pet store that wasn't taking care of her properly and nursed her back to health about a decade ago. she is a very sweet and social little baby and i love her very much :3
