A Dutch bank (Triodos Bankieren NL) has added explicit support for GrapheneOS and will be testing it going forward:

https://github.com/PrivSec-dev/banking-apps-compat-report/issues/133#issuecomment-3087638715

They join a growing number of banking apps actively permitting users to use a much more secure device instead of trying to ban it instead.

@GrapheneOS

This is amazing news! Good that the Android developer, Jasper, took this upon himself. While I don't bank at the Triodos, they deserve immense respect for this.

@GrapheneOS Interesting! May others follow the same path, for me it is necessary. Thank you!
@GrapheneOS let's hope ASN follows suit!
@GrapheneOS O wow, that is good news!   Let push all the others banks to follow💪
@GrapheneOS That's great news indeed. If only DNB would get the memo and follow that example, it would make a lot of graphene users happy.
@GrapheneOS Netherlands has proven once more they are miles ahead wrt other EU countries on this matter...
@GrapheneOS wow! Triodos operates in the UK as well. I would actually consider banking with them if it would let me use an open source phone OS, that would be amazing
@chriswood They're permitting it now. Most banks permit GrapheneOS but it's mostly not an explicit decision on their part. They just haven't shipped anything incompatible. There's a growing issue of apps using the Play Integrity API to check for a device and OS licensing Google Mobile Services, which disallows using any alternate hardware or OS not part of Google's ecosystem. We have a guide at https://grapheneos.org/articles/attestation-compatibility-guide on how they can still check device/OS/app integrity while allowing GrapheneOS.

GrapheneOS
@chriswood With most banks, there's the risk they could start using the Play Integrity API or another method to ban GrapheneOS in the future. Most likely haven't considered it and aren't really aware of it. It's extremely hard to convince apps to permit GrapheneOS after they've decided to integrate the Play Integrity API. Play Integrity API is wrongly presented as a security feature when really it enforces Google's business model and nothing more. It's insecure and doesn't really have value.

@GrapheneOS That's awesome!

Hope more follow. Definitely a pro to consider if I ever need to change banks (and things like ethics can be a reason too).

It seems to state to work without Play Services too. I would love to get rid of Play Services entirely. I still have a few things that need it, but once my bank is the only one... Might just try a second account to see if I can go without.

@GrapheneOS

Its about time. The app is working without playstore on Sailfish os, but Triodos warned me that its not safe without Google.

@GrapheneOS All the mayor New Zealand bank apps already work on #grapheneos ! 🙂
@gertvk @GrapheneOS The bank apps I use in Canada on #grapheneos all work as well.
@GrapheneOS Grat news!I hope many more Banks will follow.
@glsbank
Currently we can only offer our apps in the official store. Greetings from Bochum
@GrapheneOS banger ! I'll migrate when i migrate to graphene
@GrapheneOS how does it work? If you don't mind a few questions about basics, do you just press a button to swap out the OS under everything, and all the apps continue to work fine with all their saved data, passwords, etc? Or is it more involved, and are there detailed instructions somewhere on how to do it? Do you make a backup first and if so how does one back up a phone? (I'm an old luddite who is 20 years out of date on how tech works). When you're done writing replies to me, could you put the answers on your website, which is where I looked first? (it could be called "the hand-holding FAQ for luddite ignoramuses." >.>)

@mwt You need one of the devices officially supported by GrapheneOS and can then replace the stock Android operating system with GrapheneOS. Our web installer is very easy to use:

https://grapheneos.org/install/web

Installing GrapheneOS on the device will be a fresh installation without any of the existing data. You'll need to migrate your apps and data to GrapheneOS.

GrapheneOS has all the standard Android Open Source Project 16 functionality with substantial privacy and security improvements.

GrapheneOS
@mwt The vast majority of Android apps can be used on GrapheneOS. Banking apps are a special case where some of them try to verify the device and operating system is approved by Google because they believe it helps protect against fraud, etc. to disallow using an arbitrary device or operating system. Most banking apps work on GrapheneOS, but there has been a gradual trend towards more of these apps banning using a non-Google-approved device or OS. Some are explicitly permitting GrapheneOS now.

@mwt The recommended devices for GrapheneOS are listed at https://grapheneos.org/faq#recommended-devices. This is based on the security, update and alternate OS support requirements listed at https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices. Currently, Pixels are the only devices providing the level of security and update support we need. We're working with another Android OEM towards their future devices supporting GrapheneOS officially though.

It's easy to install GrapheneOS even without tech skills but companies do sell devices with it.
