The true threat to comedy was never the fragility of audiences, but always the fragility of our leaders.

"Comedy is a bellwether, the banana peel in the coal mine. When a society is under threat, comedians are the ones who get sent away first. It’s just a reminder to people that democracy is under threat. Authoritarians are the threat to comedy, to art, to music, to thought, to poetry, to progress, to all those things."
Jon Stewart, 2022
It's remarkable that the worst comedians (Dr. Joe Rogan, Andrew Schulz, Tony Hinchcliff) are also the ones who embraced fascism and campaigned fanatically for Trump, MAGA, RFK Jr.
They are overpriviledged, rich and successful despite having no talent but I feel like they know that and that's the thorn in their sides.
So they did everything to make censorship win (while claiming to want the opposite). They needed real comedians to be cancelled to feel better about their shortcomings.
