The super-public hug of a CEO and his employee is no cause for snickering or satisfaction. We have created a surveillance monster that can turn any misstep into a humongous scandal. We're sneering at the very idea of private moments. We will ALL regret this someday.

The Astronomer CEO's Coldplay Concert Fiasco Is Emblematic of Our Social Media Surveillance Dystopia

Facial recognition and crowdsourced social media investigations are constantly being used not just on cringe CEOs, but on random people who are simply existing in public.

@dangillmor I agree with the sentiment about surveillance, but "hide your cheating" isn't a great example of why ubiquitous spying is bad
Why exactly is cheating the unequivocal line in the sand, which is too far? Which other random moral sentiments deserve public disgrace and humiliation? Is being gay too far? Is wearing clothes from mixtures of wool and linen too far as well?
@meejah @dangillmor Oh for the want of a "perfect victim"...
@meejah @dangillmor especially when there is so much surveillance related examples today; anti-mask laws, Palantir contracts, surveillance and raids by ICE, etc. take your pick.
