Wordpress plans to bake “Al” into core. I’m skeptical by default, but sentences like “Instead of collaborating in real time with people, why not collaborate with Al?” definitely don’t help.

If anyone is planning a fork of WordPress, now would be a good time, before they introduce a bunch of this nonsense.

@wonkeythemonkey Truth be told, there are strong arguments to be had about putting "AI" into tools to "help and assist people write." I'm seeing it at work as well: the company's global mandate is to put AI into everything it can. Yep, it sucks.

There's already a great WordPress fork - @classicpress - that I use on my blogs that I've been very happy with. It's lightweight and quick and doesn't have gutenburg.

@wwwiebe @classicpress
I support ClassicPress in principle, but I actually like the block editor and use it for a ton of stuff. I see this AI encroachment as another “before vs. after” dividing line, similar to what Gutenberg was a few years ago.
@wonkeythemonkey I can imagine, that there are not much people willing to collaborate with Mullenweg, so he's looking for machines to please him.
