in the future generations of meme reposting when everyone were using misskey and sharkey. our meme will become green. :ultra_hd_4k:
i saw too much of those generations loss demos and somehow i can hear the audio of it..
@charon hey, webp sounds like a great way to produce Combine machinery audio for HL2
@winload_exe it's actually a quake soundtrack https://youtu.be/c67dIM0R-CE

@charon I’ve heard a lot about JXL and how people wish that became the popular format instead of WebP, but I never really knew how much “better” of a format it was until this image.
@SuperSluether there's a lot more of jpegxl can do, like you can losslessly convert your old jpeg image into jpegxl for smaller file size and it can convert back to old jpeg.
@charon @SuperSluether jxl is also really good at plain lossless compression. better at it than png and webp
@SuperSluether @charon the crazy thing for me ist the way it renders on on slow connections. Instead of pixel line by line like most image formstes, JXL starts with a full sized very blurry image and gets increasingly sharper as the image loads. A lot of the time it's clearly readable way before it has completely loaded.
@charon what about webm and gif
@Stellar WebM is vp9 (or vp8) it is pretty much ended up the same as webp. However gif is lossless (and large) so it won't have any effect if conversion was done correctly.
@charon but i thought webm and webp were lossless
@Stellar WebM is just mkv with extra steps. It can only contain vp8, vp9, av1 for video. opus and vorbis for audio
@Stellar webp is image format of vp9
@charon  oh no that can't be
@Stellar @charon webp can(!) be lossless, it's an alternate mode

two things called webp, indistinguishable from the outside, but fundamentally different, it's great!
@charon you are laughing but compression methods only do this when distressed
@Primavera@void.lgbt @charon yeah that's exactly what this is doing. it's compounding compression artifacts.
@charon what about GIF?
@GroupNebula563 gif is lossless if conversion was done correctly (not reducing or change color palette.)
@charon so clearly it is the superior file format
@GroupNebula563 it's not since it limited to only 256 color palette and not a dct based codec, the file size will be very large.
@charon  misskey and sharkkey do reencode images?
@Jain@blob.cat if you told it too, which is default settings.
