@outofprintarchive I played A LOT of Virtual Fighter 2 growing up. Both on the Saturn and Arcade. Could never beat the Arcade cabinet version, but had no problems beating the Saturn version on the most difficult setting. Yet, a buddy of mine, at the time, would just coast through the arcade cabinet without issue. He was built different.

Truth be told, the arcade game actually scared me.
It was so intimidating as I wasn't used to VF at all since I never saw VF1 in arcades.
The depth and technique of it, despite having just 3 buttons really scared me. πŸ˜…

It wasn't until I finally got my Saturn in early 1997 alongside Fighters MegaMix, that I could finally play it in the "safety" of my own home.
Sucked at it nearly as much as Sega Rally, which also came with my system and which looked more like a pinball game the first couple of days I tried playing it. πŸ˜‚

But man, did both games grab me.
And they never let me go.
The one game on Switch 2 that I'm looking forward the most is Virtua Fighter 5.
And I have it on PS3, 360, Xbox one and PS4 already.

@outofprintarchive At the time, the likes of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2 were the norm. So I'd understand being weary of trying something new. I think once Tekken became the 'norm' most of us slowly got used to the 3rd dimension.

@mrgrumpymonkey
Absolutely!
I loved both of them and even got Samurai Shodown and World Heroes on SNES for instance.

Virtua Fighter 2 was such a massive leap, it was really jarring.

And actually Tekken 1 was indeed my gateway into 3D fighters as I played in in the arcade not even 6 months before it released on PSone.

Of course, I had Toshinden on PSone before that, but I don’t really count that one amongst its two bigger brothers. πŸ˜
