Just testing something real quick!
@EricMalves Testing if it's accepted to post someone else's art without credit or attribution?
@cunobaros wait what? The artists tag is in the image?

@EricMalves On what platform? You posted it on Mastodon, but it's not a Mastodon user tag. Did you get it on Twitter or Instagram or some other site?

I apologise, I might be overly grumpy today, but I personally try to provide a direct link to the art or artist's profile, to make it easier for people to find them, rather than requiring people to do detective work.

@cunobaros I haven’t a clue what platform it was from. It was the first image on my camera roll and urgently needed to test media uploads on my server.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to think simply searching a name will find the result, especially when the artist is the first result.

@EricMalves
@cunobaros
searching for the name directly lead to her blog on tumblr, so it was easy.

@EricMalves Yes, I appreciate that.

However, practically nobody will do that. The vast majority of people will not make that extra effort, or even know how.

As someone whose creative work has often been shared and liked in screenshot format hundreds of thousands of times, I know that if there is no link, hardly anybody will find me from it.

If there is a link, people will.

@cunobaros

I don’t think one can say “I appreciate that” after giving the initial response you did.

I’m sorry nobody knows how to google a handle.

I’m done responding on this matter.

@cunobaros She's quite well known, or at least her work is! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Andersen @EricMalves
