@outofprintarchive I love that the reviewers had no idea that that "Bee Zipper" gamepad was clearly modeled from the original Famicom gamepad and made barely distinct (mostly by adding the thumb pad for some reason, though the turbo switches may or may not count.)
Kind of annoying that they attack its appearance. I always thought the Famicom controller looked a lot better than the (intentionally) ugly and plain looking NES brick.
I never saw any of the Beeshu controllers before and I wish they were available here as I do like the look of it.
A bit embarrassing seeing their childish comments about it actually.
I did have the Acclaim Double Player.
It really wasn't that special.
Bit finicky actually as it was via RF, so it's prone to interference.
The slow motion feature was just a simple switch that continuously paused and unpaused the game. Never used it after trying it once.
@outofprintarchive I was searching for a quick image for posterity's sake, but I just found out very very quickly that Beeshu there was ripping off Hudson... That's why the thumb pad slapped on there to make it just barely legally distinct, lol. I bet they stole the circuit.
The thing about the difference in controller designs is, regardless of your preference on looks, the brick shape of the NES controllers was no small part of "Nintenditis" back in the day. I mean there's a bit more to it than that (size, positioning, etc) but those hard corners pressing against your palms were not helping... The original design definitely was a lot better in that regard. But Nintendo wanted to make the system look less like a toy and more like a generic electronic appliance (like a VCR.)
Haha, I forgot about the Hudson controllers!
I was curious with the Beeshu name and logo, but didn't think much of it.
Yeah, it's clear as day now that it was just a rip-off...
@outofprintarchive Notice how the turbo switches are even positioned exactly the same and everything?
I bet this was a typical case of how companies back then just straight up stole stuff, lol.
