The one job AI cannot steal: unemployment
oh, so you're productive? how much money did you move from your boss to your landlord today, huh? workaholic

@ErikUden @elduvelle if your "work" is just movng money from your boss to your landlord, then you are not doing the important work. Go do work that matters. Then being productive will be a good thing.

Edit moving. (Sorey typing on the phone.)

@adredish @elduvelle the idea of “important” and “unimportant” work is a myth created to cause division. Everyone who works as anything moves money from the pockets of their boss into the pockets of their landlord.

If you think your job should define you, then that's wrong as well. Jesus was a carpenter, sure thing we remember that guy for other reasons. It's cool to be happy with your job or to have a dream job, but it's also cool to not dream of labor but do things that aren't currently and in our culture rewarded with wealth.

In our society, we do not value productivity. We value a specific kind of productivity. The one that isn't sustainable and that burns you out. There isn't such a thing as a one dimensional progress bar we as a society move towards. The fact we need to rebuild our houses and cities to be more inclusive for the disabled, less car centric, less horrifying for women during the night, shows that.

@ErikUden @elduvelle

The confounding of work with wealth and monetary gains is a dangerous and wrong path. Define your work as the important thing you do.

I never suggested that work is wealth or wealth-related. But if you define work as the thing you do to make the world better, then productivity absolutely matters.

People who complain about work aren't doing the work they consider important. Find the work you consider important and you will find productivity a good yhing.

@ErikUden @eldthing.

And, yes, if you can get paid for it so you can eat and live in our curent capitalist society then celebrate that, sure. But be productive doing the important work (whatever that is).

@ErikUden

The point is workaholism is not necessarily a bad thing. Few people are workaholic because they are doing a job for money. If your work is just moving money over, then go change jobs - do work that matters.

Wanna bet that Jesus was a total workaholic? Bet he was. Most social-justice-warriors are. (And his family were carpenters. To my knowledge, there's no evidence that he was ever "paid" for carpentry.)
