The battery on my new Lenovo M11 tablet was draining fast and it didn't make any sense because the tablet and battery is brand new. It's supposed to last all day. Turns out it was the Facebook app running in the background nonstop spying on everything I'm doing on the tablet and using all the battery power. Deleted the app. Problem is fixed.
@AutisticInnovator Had that myself, though not on the current Lenovo. I've got FB Lite installed instead, which doesn't seem to be as much of a battery-hog.

@Knitronomicon @AutisticInnovator Microsoft Teams will do that on an Android. Delete it. If you must use it, install it, use it, then delete it.

Amazon Photos is another hog on Android. Delete it.

@chemoelectric @AutisticInnovator I’m not touching Teams with a ten-foot barge pole, thank you. I’m mostly a Mac-user, just two Android tablets (one of which is for the scrap heap if it crashes on me again).

@Knitronomicon @AutisticInnovator My autistic stepdaughter’s caretakers insist on using Teams. I think it is stupid, because the software is pathetic.

I had an Apple printer for years, and we had a Macbook Air, and I don’t know what else, and I have done a little development for Mac. Also I loathe both CUPS (though am stuck with it) and clang (which I avoid). My attitude towards Mac is I take Apple things, drop them, and kick them as far as I can. :))))

To me it very much looks like your #divorce of the #bigboys is near🤩 ( just kidding) Did you ever consider a new beautiful relation with #linux? I started my new love more than 20 years ago, did not understand a thing, gradually grew into it and have been happy ever since. Just try it and your life will be ever so peaceful.

@Truucoo
I have been running Linux since Slackware 4.0 in the 1990s. I ran Gentoo for 20 years but recently switched to NixOS.

Linux has been totally messed up by people who have no experience with Unix. It is now systemd garbage, with a few exceptions such as Gentoo. And NixOS restores the principle of configuration by text editor, despite systemd-et-al. But Linux is a mess now.

MacOS is a BSD variant BTW. They don't advertise that, but it is. :)

@Truucoo

I was a Unix user before that and so there was no need for me to grow into it. I switched to a Unix clone soon as I could. Early Slackware was a clone of the actual Berkeley Software Distribution, which was far, far, far simpler than the Linux distributions you see today.

Incidentally, you can basically get SysVr4 by installing an illumos distribution. You might try it in a virtual machine. :)
