I absolutely love early HD footage and this 1992 video of Tokyo is a real treat!

@karpour Well Japan started regular HDTV broadcasts in 1991. Europe was to follow around 1997 or so... then digital television came and derailed the HDTV process. MPEG2 just promised more economical HDTV. Instead of one channel on an extra wide 72MHz transponder, it seemed possible to have multiple channels on a nomal 24-36 MHz transponder.
@casandro @karpour wasting 72MHz of precious bandwidth on a single channel does seem pretty wasteful, though :)
@manawyrm @casandro I'd waste 72MHz for this banger any day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW26YMe8iUQ

@karpour @manawyrm @casandro Someone needs to properly archive this piece of multimedia history (also notice the comment of the director), before youtube lets us down 😮
@manawyrm @karpour Well satellite bandwidth isn't quite that precious.
@karpour Koyaanisqatsi / Powaqqatsi vibes ❤️
@karpour this would probably look really nice on a 1080i crt
@karpour It's amazing how familiar everything still looks - Japan has actually not changed that much in those 33 years.

@socalgecko this is so much fun. The musak in this has given me vibes from The Birdcage, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, Twin Peaks, My So Called Life
