“Annie Glenn had severe dysfluency—affecting her speech 85% of the time—from childhood. As a result, she faced challenges throughout her life.
As her husband rose to national prominence as a decorated Marine veteran, the first American to orbit the Earth, and later a U.S. senator, Glenn struggled to communicate. At times, people would ridicule or ignore her when she had trouble holding a conversation. Her difficulty was so severe she would not speak on the phone and would point at a menu to order food.
At the age of 53, Glenn was able to find treatment to speak more fluently.”
