I stumbled across the Youtube channel of Vanessa Wingårdh. It's nightmare fuel. Not her. But her videos are showing glimpses of social media that I thankfully never have to experience as part of my personal media diet: people who can't bake a cake anymore because ChatGPT is down. Spiritual mumbo jumbo cranked to 11... It's one thing to read articles about this. But seeing actual people who have lost their marbles is frightening. Example:

@compfu I think Google isn't helping by making search so much worse over the last few years. When 90% of featured answers are just reddit posts, it doesn't actually instil any confidence in the answer being correct.

So if our way of researching is no longer reliable, I guess I can't blame people for taking the path of least resistance going forward. I'm still struggling with my own path...

@anakin78z Yeah, it's been a steady downwards spiral with search engines. And recipe sites themselves are either chock full of ads and cruft or elaborate essays (probably LLM-generated) that make it hard to figure out where the actual instructions start.
But if the alternatives are AI solutions that turn a certain percentage of people into cultists because AI is designed to be a sycophantic answering machine... I'd rather err on the side of not touching ChatGPT with a 10 foot pole.
