Feels like Amazon is getting annoyed by how we constantly think of some small thing we need, find it and hit buy, and then maybe an hour later we think of another thing, find it and hit buy.... and then we do it again maybe an hour after that...

They're starting to run the checkout process through another step that says something like, "Do you need anything else?" before getting to the final checkout button.

Of course this doesn't work because we always *think* we've got everything this time.

@bigzaphod noticed this too. My guess is they don’t really care when you order things or in what “order,” since they combine and ship after the fact. They’re just trying to get you to buy more stuff 🙃
@bigzaphod
Well, there's a difference between "need" and "want now". They should find a way around that.
@himmelssohn they sometimes offer digital rewards to defer the shipment - which we usually do when offered since my wife buys loads of ebooks - but when they don't offer it, we just pick the fastest free option. Feels like they could be doing more to ensure there's *always* a deferred option with some small reward or something. Sometimes there isn't, which is weird and I don't understand why.
@bigzaphod @himmelssohn I would have thought they evolved into "play the packing game for us and save!" by now. Sure it gives away your internal logistics but you're Amazon...

@bigzaphod

But at the same time, they’ll sit on an order for a week or more before even shipping begins (“free” “2-day” shipping, even). Seems like Amazon’s m.o. hasn’t changed since the 1990s: sit on the money (the “float”) for as long as possible, and profit from that.

By the way I just did a 2600-mi road trip. The sheer amount of trucks and cargo railcars emblazoned with the Amazon-smirk-logo is phenomenal. Interstates and rail lines stuffed w/ Amazon merch moving around.

@brianstorms my house is a mile from a local warehouse/hub - it's nuts.
@bigzaphod Something I like about _not_ having a prime account is that they hold off on shipping for a full day. If you think of anything else in 24 hours they add it to the same shipping batch.
@bigzaphod growth hacking their way into lower shipping costs
@bigzaphod they started the incremental purchase incentive by defaulting to individual shipments *during a multi item cart* where they used to ask first whether you wanted a single shipment or multiple. Now, they’ve moved it to before the checkout?

@bigzaphod this is silly anyway. Depending on the size of the item you HAVE TO split your orders up into several orders. I ordered a printer the other day and heck no I am not going to order all the photo paper with it at the same time.

Amazon delivery SUCKS in Germany. I HAVE TO avert them like the plague. They just throw sh*t in the hallway

Same goes to several other shipping companies. Always pickup. Always.
