Damn...people weren't kidding about that ghosting.
This might be a joke playing on the ghosting on the Nintendo Switch 2, but like...the Nomad's screen is possibly the worst color LCD on any device I've ever used. I have no idea how I played games on this when I was a kid. It straight up has a dial for adjusting the alignment of the viewing angle. It's baffling and I've never seen that on any other device.
The dial is labeled "bright" but it definitely does not adjust the light. It adjusts the angle (along the pitch axis) of the viewing cone. I don't really know how it works.
@endrift adjusting the contrast of classic monochrome LCDs also shifts the viewing angle, perhaps the same effect? (what this actually shifts is the RMS drive voltage applied to the segments, fwiw)
@abrasive I guess there is that dial on the DMG. I dunno if it works the same way.
@endrift wow I didn't even know color LCDs could ghost this much
@alice Yeah, it's awful. I scrubbed through over a minute of footage to find the most obviously awful frame I could, but it does not feel good to play on normally either.
@endrift I only ever used the Game Gear, but Sonic definitely was blurry.
@endrift one of these days I need to get around to doing some hardcore modding to my Nomad... I want to replace the screen as well as restore the missing lines on the cart connector
