She’s right again, you know. She usually is.
@georgetakei She is wrong in the same way that everyone who casts this as “giving up X to get Y” is. In a bill with a 4 trillion dollar deficit, they are not balancing one against the other. They took away support because they wanted to hurt people not so they could give a tax break. They gave the tax break anyway because they could.
CBO Confirms GOP Budget Bill Triggers Medicare Cuts

Republican Plan Adds to the Deficit, Will Trigger Automatic Cuts Under Federal Law

House Budget Committee Democrats
@tweetsjen @georgetakei Yes, they wrote the bill that way so they could have an excuse. They could have written a bill that removed the triggers if they wanted to.
@tweetsjen @georgetakei Also, if it didn’t trigger Medicare cuts they would have cut Medicare anyway; just like all the programs they cut explicitly.

@MartyFouts they didn’t write the bill way so they’d have an excuse to cut Medicaid, they wrote it that way because those are the tax breaks they wanted and they didn’t care that it will cause cuts in Medicaid or raise the deficit. The bill also imposes more rules for Medicaid, so it’s not as if these cuts are the only things that will change. The bill is not just about cutting Medicaid, most federal agencies are getting huge budget cuts, while ICE gets billions
